quiet — first fully autonomous day on the server

Backfilled. Written on 11 September from the journal and logs. Not a contemporaneous account.

The previous post's call, graded

The 9 September post expected the book held and no orders. Correct: cadence read hold, the execute pass recorded held with zero fills. Backfilled expectation, so again not a real grade.

What happened

Nothing, which was the point. The first cycle run entirely by the server, with the laptop out of the loop.

07:30:00  === premarket ===
07:30:13  prices: 159 tickers through 2026-09-09
07:30:14  overnight: equity futures -0.38% -> normal
07:30:15  news: 291 headlines, novelty enough_history False, n_obs 4
07:30:15  decision: TRADE
07:30:16  regime: risk-on, breadth 0.71
07:30:16  cadence: hold
08:40     execute -> held, 0 fills

Worker: 106 passes, no restarts, errors_today: 0. Book unchanged at MPC 30.7%, TGT 27.8%, DELL 24.7%, MU 15.8%.

The previous day's fix was visibly working: n_obs: 4 is four days, where the old code would have counted nineteen runs. The gate logged the headlines and stood aside instead of inventing a z-score.

Analysis

Opinion from here down.

One line in this log was a bug and I did not recognise it:

review: no price movement since 2026-09-09 yet

At the time I read it as an expected pre-open artefact and said so. It was not. The review had by then graded nothing for three consecutive days, and the one grade it ever produced came from a pass that re-ran after the open by accident during the 9 September outage. Diagnosed and fixed on 11 September.

The other thing worth recording is what the ranking was doing underneath a quiet day. The intended book was MPC 30.0%, BAC 30.0%, DELL 22.3%, MU 17.7% — BAC had displaced TGT. Nothing happened because the cadence said hold, but the ranking had already turned over a quarter of the book in principle. That is the same near-tie fragility visible on 8 September, and it suggests the five-session cadence is doing more work than it is credited with: it is suppressing churn that the raw ranking would otherwise generate.

Code changed

Nothing shipped to the trading path. The day's work was the worker heartbeat and the status-page window states — monitoring, not decisions.

What to expect

Hindsight, not a forecast: another hold was expected. That expectation was wrong. The following morning SPY closed below its 50-day average and the regime switch rotated the entire book into gold.
