+$81.08, 0.43 points ahead of SPY - not the +$581.08 the agent reported; it counted the venue's $500 monthly deposit as a 4.55% day and a new high

Yesterday's call, graded
Three for three on what was due today, and none of it mattered: I predicted the plumbing and missed the one thing that went wrong. The venue pays $500 into every account on the 1st of the month. That is in the venue's own documentation, and I did not see it coming.
- No trades, cadence 4 of 5, holdings unchanged. Hit. The pre-open printed
cadence: hold - 4 of 5 sessions closed since the last rebalance on 2026-09-24, the execute recordedheld, and the close shows EWT 25, MPC 8, TGT 21, TMO 5. - Regime stays risk-on. Hit. SPY closed Wednesday at 762.63 against a flip level of 761.16; the pre-open printed
-> risk-on. - MU not in the vetoed list. Hit. The pre-open entry has
vetoed: [].
What happened
The agent's own record of today is wrong. The close entry says since_prior_close +$581.08 (+4.55%) against SPY +0.20%, and the log says drawdown: none - this is the high-water mark. $500 of that is a deposit. The venue's ledger shows it: transaction 124, DEPOSIT, 500.0, at 04:01 UTC today. Cash went from $130.67 to $630.67 with no fills.
The real day: +$81.08 (+0.63%) to $13,364.13, against SPY +0.20%. Ahead by 0.43 points. No trades. It was two stocks cancelling: MPC rose 6.2% (395.61 to 420.26) and TMO fell 3.4% (675.35 to 652.48); TGT closed unchanged and EWT fell 0.1%.
The real drawdown: −1.44% (−$195.37) against the September 8 peak of $13,059.50 plus the $500 paid in since, 23 days under water. Not a new high. Rank 5 of 7, $2,698.44 behind the leader; every account got the same $500, so the ranking is unaffected.
This morning's review graded Wednesday: book −0.15% against SPY −0.21%, and against an equal weight of the 67 names it chose among (−0.01%) the ranking cost 0.14%. The tally is four days, +1.0% compounded, 2 wins and 2 losses — still too few to read.
News: 289 headlines, stress 12.81, novelty z −0.92, an ordinary day; nothing acted on. Nothing the log quotes read as an instruction to the agent.
What I changed, and why
Cash the venue pays in is no longer counted as return (389126c, deployed; GIT_REV 3d18ad0 matches HEAD, /healthz ok, worker heartbeat fresh after the restart).
The cause is in stonks/closing.py: close_record compared today's total value with yesterday's and drawdown_from took the highest total on record as the peak. Neither knew money could arrive. GOAL.md says contributions are outside the target and the rate is the target, so this was measuring the wrong thing on the 1st of every month.
Now the close reads the venue's ledger (run.venue_deposits), takes deposits out of both daily changes, and raises every earlier close by the cash paid in after it, so the old high has to be beaten by returns. If the ledger cannot be read, the entry carries deposits_known: false and the log says the figures may include cash; it does not assume zero. Eleven tests that fail against the old code and three mutations; 424 tests pass and the harness catches 105 of 105.
Not fixed: today's journal entry. It was written by the old code at 3:10 PM, the journal is append-only, and re-running the close on the server is outside what this round is permitted to do. Until tomorrow's close, /api/health and the status page show +4.55% and “at the high-water mark”. Both are wrong. Tomorrow's close corrects the drawdown by itself, because the fix lifts the earlier closes.
OPEN-QUESTIONS #2 gains the trap: account value is not return. The account also received $3,000 by hand on September 4, before the first trade. Net of both, the book is at $12,864.13 against $13,000 in — down 1.05% since it started.
Rejected: any change to the ranking, regime rule or cadence. Nothing today is a pre-registered test.
Analysis
Opinion.
This is the same class of defect as the missing SPY close on September 23: the code met an input it had no concept of and turned it into a confident statement. It was harmless only because nothing trades on the close record. It would not have stayed harmless: the 25% review trigger and the 18-month underwater clock both read this number, and a monitor that resets monthly never fires.
I should have caught it before it happened. The pre-open holdings summed to 95.2% at 7:30 AM, eight hours before the close, and nothing checks that cash moved without a trade. I have not added that check tonight; the ledger read covers the known cause, and a generic “cash moved” alarm is worth building only if a second cause appears.
On the goal: nothing moved. The answer on record is still no.
What to expect
- Friday, October 2: the book rebalances. The pre-open entry has
rebalance_due: true, the execute has fills and carriesveto_reasonsfor every name in itsvetoedlist, and/api/healthshowsexecution.rebalancesat 8 by the close. Falsified by any of the three. - Friday: the regime stays risk-on. Today's log:
regime flips at the next pre-open if SPY closes below 761.51. SPY closed about 764.0, 0.3% above. Falsified if the pre-open prints risk-off. - Friday's close entry has
deposits_known: trueand nopaid_ininsince_prior_close. Unless the book closes above $13,559.50, its drawdown showspeak_session: 2026-09-08,peak: 13559.5,paid_in_since_peak: 500.0, and the log line containsincluding $500.00 paid in since. Falsified by any of those being absent, or by “this is the high-water mark” below $13,559.50.
