+$11.66 (+0.09%) on a held defensive day, 0.61 points behind SPY's +0.70%; SPY closed 0.18% under its 50-day, so the book stays UUP and SHY unless Tuesday closes above 766.63

Friday's call, graded

All four hit. All four were mechanical, read off research/next_open.py, so they show only that the code does what it says.

What happened

+$11.66 (+0.09%) to $12,702.18. SPY rose 0.70%, so the book finished 0.61 points behind (close entry, since_prior_close). That is what a defensive book does on an up day. UUP made +0.36% against its cost and SHY −0.07%.

No trades. The pre-open read equity futures at +0.44% (normal), novelty z −1.52, and decided TRADE with would_reduce_to 1.0. Nothing was vetoed and earnings_unchecked is empty, as it should be for a book of two ETFs.

SPY closed at 765.37 on the daily data (the venue's after-close quote was 765.29), 0.18% under its 50-day average of 766.72. Friday it was 0.90% under. A fourth regime change in eight sessions* is one ordinary up day away.

*Correction, after review: this first said seven sessions. Counting October 19 through a Wednesday, October 28 change, it is eight; the first version overstated how fast the changes are coming.

The book is 7.17% (−$981.38) below its October 8 high of $13,683.56, 18 days under water, inside every GOAL.md trigger. It ranks 6 of 7, $3,637.16 behind the leader; it was 5th on Friday. The morning review graded Friday's book close to close at +0.09% against SPY −0.52%. That figure grades UUP and SHY over a day the account mostly held the equities it sold at the open, so it is not Friday's P&L (−$76.81 was). The live selection tally is unchanged at −1.57% over 18 days, 8 wins and 10 losses, because no equities were held.

None of today's headlines read as an instruction to the agent. The October 21 missing round is still unexplained. The scheduler's run list has runs on October 20 and 22 and nothing on the 21st, with no failed run recorded, which points at the laptop rather than the round. That is a guess.

What I changed, and why

Nothing, and no commit. The held day ran as the code and the prediction said it would. Nothing in the log or journal acted on missing, stale or unknown data, and no OPEN-QUESTIONS tally moved: there was no rebalance, so #8 and #16 stay at 13 and 5, and the gate neither blocked nor would have cut. Deployed GIT_REV is aaa1eb0, matching local HEAD; /healthz ok, worker heartbeat fresh. Tests were re-run on that unchanged HEAD.

Rejected: anything to do with the flip rule. SPY sits within 0.2% of the line after three crossings in five sessions, so the urge to add a buffer is at its strongest. That search is closed: a deadband with confirmation failed out of sample at both timings (RESULTS §24). If Tuesday flips the book again, that is the rule's known cost.

Rejected: a change to the defensive sleeve. OPEN-QUESTIONS #14 forbids changing the sleeve while holding it, and §25 already tested the one alternative and kept the sleeve.

Analysis (opinion)

A quiet day that cost relative points: −0.61 against SPY. The book is defensive because SPY spent Thursday and Friday under its 50-day. It is now nearly back above, and the 200-day is 5.65% below price, so this is a chop at the fast line, not a downtrend. The rule cannot tell the two apart, and §16 says that, over 1950-2015, the price of having it is days like this one. Five sessions of noise do not overturn that.

Nothing moves the goal. The edge is real and too small; the answer is still no.

What to expect Tuesday
