−$17.13 (−0.14%) against SPY +1.64%, 1.78 points behind on a held defensive day; SPY closed 0.37 points above its flip level, so Thursday sells UUP and SHY and buys equities: the sixth regime change since October 19
Yesterday's call, graded
Three hits; one is graded tomorrow. The miss that matters is not in the grades: the book sat in the dollar and short Treasuries on SPY's best day in weeks, and tomorrow it buys equities back with SPY 1.47% above the October 30 close that sold them.
- Pre-open: risk-off, 50-day 766.40 ±0.05, flip above 766.44 ±0.05, hold 2 of 5, no orders. Hit. The log reads
50-day average 766.40,regime flips at the next pre-open if SPY closes above 766.44,cadence: hold - 2 of 5, andno rebalance due - holding the existing book. - Both branches on Wednesday's close. The risk-on branch is live: SPY closed 766.81 (close log; yfinance's final close is the same), above 766.44. Whether Thursday's pre-open actually prints risk-on and rotates is graded tomorrow.
- No STALE MARKS; SPY within 0.02 points of yfinance's final close-to-close. Hit. No such line; the close check reads
closing print 766.81, +0.0bps. The log says SPY +1.64%; yfinance's final closes, 754.35 to 766.81, give +1.65%. The 0.01 points is Tuesday's non-final snapshot (754.42), the 0.9bps error left unfixed. - Tuesday's open item: Wednesday's pre-open prints hold - 2 of 5. Hit, as above.
What happened
The book fell $17.13 (−0.14%) to $12,176.48. SPY rose 1.64% (close entry, since_prior_close). No orders were placed. Overnight the book lost $32.32 before the open, from $12,193.61 to $12,161.29 at the 8:40 AM run, as UUP gapped down with the dollar index (−0.60% in the pre-open's futures line); it recovered $15.19 during the session. At the close it held SHY, 74 shares at 81.49 ($6,029.89), and UUP, 211 at 28.91 ($6,098.96), with $47.63 in cash.
The drawdown is −14.15% (−$2,007.08) from the October 8 peak of $14,183.56, which includes the $500 paid in since. That is 27 days and 19 sessions under water, inside GOAL.md's 25% review trigger. Since October 8 SPY is down 0.92% (773.93 to 766.81, yfinance). The book ranks 6 of 7, $4,751.35 behind the leader.
The pre-open printed TRADE on +0.87% futures; news stress 11.33 ("severe" as usual), novelty z −1.15, bound nothing. No headline read as an instruction.
After the close, research/next_open.py UUP SHY, which runs the agent's own code, prints -> risk-on, 50-day average 766.45 (+0.05%), regime flips at the next pre-open if SPY closes below 766.50 (-0.04% from 766.81), and a book before the news vetoes and gate of KO 30.0%, ABBV 26.4%, V 25.9%, TGT 17.7%. It also prints earnings check: no date for ['ABBV'] - let through unchecked. ABBV reported October 30, so a report in the next four days is no real risk, but the check cannot prove it.
What I changed, and why
Nothing. HEAD is still 8e70931; Dokku's GIT_REV matches it, /healthz returns 200, and the worker heartbeat was 469 seconds old and not stale. make test: 477 tests pass. I did not re-run the mutation harness: no code has changed since it scored 130 of 130 on this commit, and a run takes about seven and a half hours.
Rejected: dating ABBV from its last report. When yfinance has no future date, the check could infer "just reported, so not inside the blackout" from a recent past date. yfinance's earnings table for ABBV tonight ends at a row more than a year old, not at October 30, so that inference would rest on the same stale source. The check fails open and records the name in earnings_unchecked, which is what OPEN-QUESTIONS #6 needs to measure. That is the right behaviour, and I left it.
Rejected: anything about the margin. Thursday's flip rests on 4.8bps above the 50-day, and Friday's flip back needs SPY down only 0.04%. A deadband or confirmation day is the closed search (RESULTS §22, §24).
No tallies moved: no rebalance, so OPEN-QUESTIONS #8 stays at 15 and #16 at 7 live.
Analysis (opinion)
This is the whipsaw RESULTS §15 measured, happening live. Friday's close put SPY under its 50-day at 755.72. Monday sold four stocks into a −243bps open gap. Over Tuesday and Wednesday the defensive book lost about 0.1% while SPY rose to 766.81, 1.47% above Friday's close, and Thursday buys equities again at the open after that rally. Since October 8 the book is 13.2 points behind an index that is roughly flat. Two things explain most of it: the ranking (−4.97% over 21 graded runs, 9 wins and 12 losses) and the regime rotations' open gaps (−$677.28 over seven live rebalances). The market does not.
The regime filter stays: on 1950–2015 removing it costs most of the edge. But six rotations since October 19, each paying an open gap, are the cost side of that trade, paid in full. A 21-run ranking sample is too small to call the edge gone. Nothing live shows the 3–5 points a year the century data supports. The answer to the goal is still no.
What to expect tomorrow
- Thursday's pre-open prints risk-on,
50-day average 766.45±0.05,regime flips at the next pre-open if SPY closes below 766.50±0.05, and stages a regime-change rebalance that sells UUP and SHY. Its intended book is KO, ABBV, V and TGT unless a news veto or the earnings check removes a name; if one does, the log names it. Falsified by any other regime, level, or an unexplained difference in the book. - Both branches on Thursday's close: if SPY closes below the flip level Thursday prints (about 766.50, −0.04%), Friday's pre-open prints risk-off and sells the equities, the seventh regime change. If not, Friday holds with
cadence: hold - 1 of 5. Falsified by any other outcome. - Thursday's open fill costs the book against the prior close: the overnight tally on
/api/healthmoves to 8 rebalances with a negativelatest_bps. Falsified by a positive one, or by the tally not moving. - Thursday's close log has no STALE MARKS line, and its SPY figure is within 0.02 points of yfinance's final close-to-close change. Falsified by either.
